JANUARY 8th - FEBRUARY 15th 2024
We are delighted to have sponsored this project with pupils of Coldstream Primary School for our first exhibition in 2024. The budding artists of Primary 5&6 from the local school visited the gallery to be inspired by the abstract paintings of exhibiting artists Melanie McEwan and Liz Hardy. They considered the paintings, interpreting what the paintings are about and thought about how the colours make them feel. They then took part in workshops at the school, facilitated by Liz and Mel, to produce their own colourful works.
The children's creations from the workshops then joined Mel's paintings on display in the gallery.
Melanie McEwan believes that art should 'make the soul sing'. After a time of some sadness she sought to infuse colour back into her world with her paintbrush and she is literally painting the colour back into her life. The abstract paintings shown in the exhibition each measure 1m square and are an expression of her profound joy of nature and appreciation for the beauty of Scotland. Find out more about her painting style.
Liz Hardy paints on a grand scale and the painting shown in this exhibition is from her current series of coastal abstracts. She also regularly facilitates art workshops at schools and community centres. For this project she will be assisted by Melanie McEwan and we look forward to seeing the creations of pupils of classes 5 & 6 of Coldstream Primary School.
